Legacies Change Lives: Emma Troyer

Emma Troyer is a senior music education major from Sandusky, Ohio. As a student in the Ā鶹¾«Ń”Glauser School of Music, she has found a strong sense of community while preparing for a career in music education.

ā€œĀ鶹¾«Ń”was always my top school, but I didn’t know if I could afford to come here,ā€ Emma said. ā€œThese scholarships have really made that dream a reality and allowed me to attend.ā€

Emma is a recipient of several scholarships, including The Dr. Rosemarie B. Manganello Music Education Scholarship, the Sara Stone Miller Endowment for Music Education and the Irene Beamer Scholarship, which was created through a bequest in the 1970s. These scholarships have allowed her to attend her top-choice school and have become even more meaningful because they reflect a shared belief in the importance of music education.

ā€œMusic education is something I have always felt very passionate about,ā€ she said. ā€œReceiving a scholarship, especially for this field, is something I really value. It feels like other people want to support music education in our schools.ā€

During her time at Kent State, Emma has performed with the university’s Wind and Flute Ensembles, including a recent performance at the 2026 Ohio Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference, where music educators from across the state gathered.

To those considering supporting scholarships at Kent State, Emma offers a clear message: ā€œIt can change a student’s life. Without scholarships, many students wouldn’t be able to follow their dreams and reach their full potential.ā€
