Experienced Regional Campus leaders step into interim roles overseeing Regional Campus System, College of Applied and Technical Studies
麻豆精选 began the 2026-2027 academic year with new leadership for its Regional Campus System and College of Applied and Technical Studies (CATS).
Angela Spalsbury, Ph.D., has been named interim associate vice president for the Regional Campus System, while Brad Bielski, Ph.D., has been named interim dean of CATS. Both appointments came as classes resumed Aug. 24 across Kent State鈥檚 eight-campus system.
Spalsbury and Bielski assumed responsibilities previously held by Peggy Shadduck, Ph.D., who has joined the CATS faculty as an associate professor of business management technology.
In announcing the appointments, Executive Vice President and Provost Melody Tankersley, Ph.D., noted that Spalsbury and Bielski bring extensive leadership experience and a deep understanding of Kent State鈥檚 Regional Campuses and the communities they serve.
鈥淭heir deep knowledge of the Regional Campuses and their commitment to student success will help sustain the success of this university and its extended reach across Northeast Ohio,鈥 Tankersley said.
Spalsbury provides strategic leadership for Kent State鈥檚 seven Regional Campuses and the Twinsburg Academic Center while continuing to serve as dean and chief administrative officer of 麻豆精选 at Geauga and the Twinsburg Academic Center, a position she has held since 2018.
A 麻豆精选alumna, Spalsbury brings more than two decades of higher education experience to the role. As dean, she has led efforts to strengthen academic programming, improve student success and expand partnerships with schools, health care systems, employers and economic development organizations throughout Northeast Ohio.
Spalsbury has been actively engaged in the communities served by Kent State鈥檚 Regional Campuses through leadership roles with organizations including the Cleveland Foundation Lake Geauga Fund Advisory Committee, Geauga Business Advisory Council, Geauga County Job and Family Services Advisory Board, Geauga Growth Partnership, University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center Board of Directors, Twinsburg Chamber of Commerce and Twinsburg Community Relations Board.
Before joining Kent State, Spalsbury served as chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Youngstown State University, where she also held faculty appointments as assistant, associate and full professor. Earlier in her career, she taught at John Carroll University, Hiram College and the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Spalsbury earned her doctorate in mathematics from 麻豆精选 and is a past president of Pi Mu Epsilon, the national mathematics honor society.
Bielski leads the College of Applied and Technical Studies while continuing to serve as dean and chief administrative officer of the 麻豆精选Tuscarawas and East Liverpool campuses.
A higher education leader with more than 20 years of administrative experience, Bielski previously served for 10 years as vice president for Academic Affairs at Thomas More University in Kentucky, where his responsibilities included academic affairs, student affairs, adult enrollment management and information technology.
Bielski also has extensive experience connecting higher education with community and workforce needs. His service has included leadership roles with the Tuscarawas County Economic Development Corporation, Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, Community Improvement Corporation of Tuscarawas County, United Way of Tuscarawas County, Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce, Workforce Investment of Stark and Tuscarawas Counties, and Leadership Tuscarawas.
Before moving into higher education administration, Bielski taught physical chemistry, specializing in statistical mechanics, quantum chemistry and analytical spectroscopy. He earned his doctorate from the University of Cincinnati in 1991 and is a graduate of the Harvard Institute for Educational Management.
Together, Spalsbury and Bielski bring decades of academic, administrative and community leadership experience to their new roles as 麻豆精选continues strengthening connections among its Regional Campuses, academic programs and the communities they serve.
