Pathway 2 Teach Apprenticeship FAQ

Considering participation in Pathway 2 Teach or exploring it for your district?

This page answers common questions about program eligibility, coursework, costs and next steps for districts and prospective participants. The information below is intended to help school leaders and paraprofessionals better understand program expectations, requirements and the application process. If you have additional questions after reviewing this information, please contact our team for guidance.

What is Pathway 2 Teach?

Pathway 2 Teach is a registered apprenticeship program designed for paraprofessionals who want to become licensed teachers. The program allows participants to earn their pay while completing coursework and gaining classroom experience toward Intervention Specialist (P-5) teacher licensure.

Who is eligible to apply?

Pathway 2 Teach is designed for individuals who are currently working as a paraprofessional, instructional assistant, or similar role in a partnering school district or educational service center.

Additional eligibility requirements may include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Employment with a participating district
  • Meeting university admission requirements
  • Commitment to completing the program requirements
How do I start the process?

The first step is to complete the Pathway 2 Teach interest form. After submitting the form, someone from our office will review your information and contact you with next steps.

Submitting the interest form does not commit you to the program.

How much does the program cost?

The total cost of the program varies depending on several factors, including:

  • Previous college credit that may apply toward the program
  • Scholarship or financial aid opportunities
  • Whether you enter Phase 1 or Phaes 2 of the program
  • Where Phase 1 coursework is taken (Kent Main, Regional Campus, Community College)
  • The total number of courses required after transcript review

Because each candidate's situation is different, cost estimates are discussed during the advising process.

Are scholarships or financial support available?

Financial support opportunities may be available through:

  • State or federal apprenticeship funding
  • University scholarships
  • Federal financial aid (for eligible students)

Financial options will be discussed during the advising process.

What are Phase 1 and Phase 2?

The program includes 2 phases:

Pre-Apprenticeship Phase — Begin foundational coursework

  • This phase sets you up for success before you officially enter the Registered Apprenticeship years

Apprenticeship Phase — Years 2 and 3

  • Years 2 and 3 are when you move into the official Registered Apprenticeship phase. In this phase, everything integrates — your job and your coursework working together.

Phase placement is determined after reviewing your transcripts and previous coursework. Details about each phase will be explained during the advising meeting.

Where are the courses taken?

Courses may be offered in different formats depending on the program and schedule:

  • Online courses
  • In-person courses
  • Hybrid formats (a combination of online and in-person)

Course format may vary by semester and program requirements.

Can I continue working while completing the program?

Yes. Pathway 2 Teach is designed so participants can continue working in their school district while completing coursework and training.

Participants gain on-the-job training experience in the classroom while completing their degree and licensure requirements.

What happens after I complete the interest form?

After submitting the interest form:

  1. Your information will be reviewed by the program team.
  2. You may be asked to submit unofficial transcripts.
  3. A program representative may contact you to discuss eligibility and next steps.
  4. If appropriate, you will be guided through the university application and advising process.
Does completing the interest form mean I am accepted into the program?

No. Completing the interest form simply begins the conversation. Admission into the program requires meeting university and program requirements.

How long does the program take?

The timeline varies depending on:

  • Previous college coursework
  • Number of courses required
  • Individual pacing through the program

Your anticipated timeline will be discussed during advising.

Phase 1 is typically two years with no prior credits. Phase 2 is two years.
