Spend your summer at Porthouse! Every year, Porthouse Theatre welcomes dozens of professional and student designers, technicians, and staff, who along with actors and musicians, comprise the Porthouse Theatre company.

Company Management and Facilities

Company Manager

May 15 – Aug. 12, 2026

  • Manage the administrative running of the company and the season.
  • Coordinate company housing (including move-in/move-out), parking, communications, and special events (including opening night parties).
  • Help resolve all personnel and material problems.
  • On an emergency basis, substitute into any administrative position.
  • Attend all production and front-of-house meetings as scheduled.
  • Assist Marketing Coordinator.
  • Ensure that at least 2 Company Management team members are in attendance of all technical rehearsals and performances.

Assistant Company Manager

May 15 – Aug. 12, 2026

  • Assist the Company Manager with the administration of the company and the season.
  • Assist the Company Manager in the coordination of housing, parking, company communication, and special events, including all opening night parties.
  • Help resolve all personnel and material problems.
  • Substitute for any administrative position in case of emergency.
  • Attend production/front-of-house meetings; work performances as scheduled.
  • Assist the Marketing Coordinator with media and opening night parties.

Facilities Manager

May 26 – Aug. 11, 2026

  • Maintain operations of Porthouse, including theatre, pavilions, and grounds (including lawn/flowerbeds, picnic tables, parking lot, property signage, and restrooms.)
  • Keep the insect and pest population under control.
  • Assist the Production Manager and the Managing Director to facilitate and solve maintenance, personnel, and materials problems.
  • Coordinate with Box Office and House Management on matters of audience control, safety, parking, and special needs during all performances.
  • Attend all staff and front-of-house meetings.

Concessions Manager

May 26 – Aug. 11, 2026

  • Maintain and monitor the concession inventory and manage bookkeeping.
  • Coordinate with the Company Manager or Facilities Manager to order concession supplies.
  • Assist the Facilities Manager in the maintenance of Porthouse grounds.
  • Train and supervise the concessions staff.
  • Arrange timely deposit of all concessions receipts and reports.
  • Oversee the maintenance of pavilion and picnic areas.
  • Help prepare the Porthouse grounds for the season opening and closing.
  • Attend production and front of house meetings as scheduled.

House Manager/Assistant House Manager

June 9 – Aug. 9, 2026

  • Supervise and run the front of the house operations.
  • File house manager reports after each performance.
  • Coordinate curtain speech, curtain, intermission, and end of show times with the Production Stage Manager.
  • Maintain playbill quantities and coordinate stuffing of any inserts.
  • Handle customer service issues as related to front-of-house operations.
  • Enforce house rules and maintain safety in all public areas.
  • Attend all front-of-house meetings as scheduled.

Facilities and Concessions Staff

June 1 – Aug. 11, 2026

  • Maintain the appearance and safety of Porthouse grounds.
  • Keep the insect and pest situation under control.
  • Perform daily maintenance in the theatre, concessions area, picnic pavilions, dressing rooms, flowers/flower beds, and all restrooms
  • Prepare Porthouse grounds for the opening and closing of the season.
  • Sell concession items before each performance and at intermission.
  • Assist in coordinating patron parking.
Stage Management

Assistant Stage Managers

May 19 – Aug. 10, 2026

  • Work under the direction of the Equity Production Stage Manager.
  • Assist directors, music director, choreographers and Production Stage Manager as needed for all productions.
  • Attend all rehearsals as needed.
  • Work all performances as needed.
  • Assist in strikes as assigned.
  • Possess strong communication skills and the ability to work with others of varying experience as well as independently.
  • Work with and lead younger actors.
Box Office

Box Office Manager/Assistant Manager

May 11 – Aug. 11, 2026

  • Train, schedule and supervise box office staff.
  • Enforce cash-handling, policies and procedures, produce shift and daily transaction reports, sales reports, and deposits.
  • Handle, process, and oversee subscription, group, and single ticket sales.
  • Attend production and front-of-house meetings as scheduled.
  • Lend assistance to the group and overall marketing efforts as needed.
  • Handle customer service needs, complaints, and problems.
  • Coordinate the pavilion reservations and special needs with facilities, concessions, and house management.
  • Plan and schedule Box Office staff meetings.
  • Assist the Performing Arts Box Office Manager and Managing Director.

Box Office Staff

May 18 – Aug. 11, 2026

  • Sell subscriptions, single tickets and complete ticket exchanges for subscribers.
  • Lend assistance to the group marketing effort as directed and Porthouse’s overall marketing effort as needed.
  • Perform customer relations, troubleshoot issues, and interact with patrons for optimal customer experience.
  • Process picnic pavilion reservations.
  • Assist the Managing Director and Box Office Managers as needed.
Costume Shop

First Hands

  • Pin and stitch muslins.
  • Assist the cutter/draper with laying out and cutting costumes.
  • Pin and stitch constructed costumes.
  • Handwork such as hems, buttons, and snaps.
  • Alterations on pulled, purchased or rented costumes.
  • Alter and trim accessories such as hats, shoes, and jewelry.

Stitchers

May 18 – July 25, 2026

  • Assist the First Hand with pinning and stitching of constructed costumes and muslins.
  • Handwork for constructed costumes such as hems, buttons and snaps.
  • Alterations on costumes pulled from stock, purchased or rented.
  • Alter and trim accessories such as hats, shoes and jewelry.

Stitcher/Dresser Interns

May 18 – June 9 or June 10 – Aug. 9, 2026

  • Handwork for constructed costumes such as hems, buttons and snaps.

Wardrobe Supervisor

  • Responsible for running of costume area during performances, including crew supervision.
  • Maintain/repair costumes, accessories, shoes and other costume items.
  • Launder, press, and steam all costumes; oversee dry cleaning.
  • Check out and distribute costumes to dressing rooms before and collect and check in costumes after performances.
  • Assist with quick changes during the performances.
  • Assist actors with make-up and hairstyles.
  • Assist Costume Shop Supervisor with all set-ups/strikes of costumes and dressing areas, including rental returns and stock storage.

Dressers

June 4 – August 11, 2026

  • Assist the wardrobe supervisor and others on the wardrobe team in running of the costume area during dress rehearsals and performances.
  • Assist with quick changes and wigs and hair maintenance.
  • Maintain and repair costumes during run of show.
  • Assist with laundry, dry cleaning, steaming and pressing costumes.
  • Assist with costume strikes and set-ups and assist with returning costumes to storage.

Dresser Interns

Properties Manager

  • Work closely with the Scenic Designer to locate stage furniture and properties.
  • Painting, creating and/or refinishing of stage furniture and properties as directed.
  • Purchase props and use construction techniques to create props.
  • Participate in scenic change-overs and strikes.

Properties Artisans

May 18 – July 25 or Aug. 11, 2026

  • Work with the Properties Manager in locating furniture and properties.
  • Create and build stage furniture and properties.
  • Work on the backstage crew as assigned.
  • Participate in all scenic change-overs and strikes. Work with technical staff in building of scenery.

Scenic Charge Artist/Scenic Artists

May 18 – July 25 or Aug. 11, 2026

  • Work with the Scenic Designers mixing colors and creating techniques to execute the paint renderings.
  • Work as a team painting and texturing scenery, stage floor and set pieces.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in various scenic painting techniques.
  • Participate in all scenic changeovers and strikes.
  • Work with technical staff in building of scenery.

Head Carpenter/ Carpenters

May 18 – July 25 or Aug. 11, 2026

  • Work with the Technical Director and tech staff to build a 3-show season.
  • Construct scenery and rig scenery.
  • Participate in scenic change-overs and strikes.
  • Possess proficient knowledge of theatrical carpentry and shop tools.
  • Welding and metalworking skills preferred.
  • Serve on run crew if needed.

Head Electrician

May 18 – Aug. 11, 2026

  • Assist the designers on the installation and operation of lighting equipment.
  • Supervise all electrical crew.
  • Rig, cable, hang, and focus as required by the Lighting Designer.
  • Work on the electrics crew if assigned.
  • Maintain the integrity of the lighting design for each production.

Assistant Head Electrician/Programmer

May 18 – Aug. 11, 2026

  • Work with the Master Electrician in the hanging, focusing and rigging of lighting equipment.
  • Participate in scenic and electric change-overs and strikes.
  • Run the light board for all productions.
  • Maintain and repair instruments and cables.

Electricians/Spot Operators

May 18 – Aug. 11, 2026

  • Work with the Master Electrician in the hanging, focusing and rigging of lighting equipment.
  • Participate in scenic and electric change-overs and strikes.
  • Run the follow spot or work backstage on scenic and/or electrics crew.
  • Work in the scene shop.
  • Help maintain and repair instruments and cable.

Sound Engineer/A1

May 18 – Aug. 11, 2026

  • Hang, rig, cable and install all sound equipment.
  • Maintain all sound equipment.
  • Set up wireless microphones.
  • Set up the mixer and playback machines.
  • Responsible for the smooth running of the sound area during performances.

Sound Mic Technician/A2

May 18 – Aug. 11, 2026

  • Maintain microphone equipment.
  • Assist with sound production by setting up sound and recording equipment.
  • Test equipment before every performance.
