Dear Â鶹¾«Ñ¡ Students, Faculty and Staff, â¶Ä¯
The Division of Student Life is committed to fostering a campus environment where all students feel welcomed, affirmed and empowered to shape the community where they live, learn and grow. In support of this commitment and in response to recently enacted state legislation and federal executive orders, the Division of Student Life will enhance support to meet student needs.  â¶Ä¯
Ohio Senate Bill 1 permits student organizations, including fraternities and sororities, to continue providing opportunities for student engagement and belonging. The Division of Student Life is committed to increasing support for the more than 350 student organizations through the Center for Student Involvement, led by Ben Davis, Ed.D., director of Kent Student Center and Involvement.
The staff will: â¶Ä¯
- Offer robust outreach and personalized guidance.
- Engage with student leaders and advisors.
- Provide all student organizations with access to support and visibility.
- Continue to work toward creating a community of kindness and respect. â¶Ä¯
To comply with the new state law, the university will be closing several identity-based centers. Effective June 27, 2025, Â鶹¾«Ñ¡will no longer operate its LGBTQ+ Center, Women’s Center and Student Multicultural Center on the Kent Campus. While the centers themselves will close, the named spaces of the E. Timothy Moore Center and the Williamson House, home of the Center for Sexual and Relationship Violence Support Services (SRVSS), will remain. All the spaces will continue to be available for all students, with guidelines being developed.
The Stark Campus also will no longer operate its LGBTQ Resource Center, but the space will continue to be available as a general resource room intended to serve all students.
In addition, the university’s long-standing LGBTQ+ Living-Learning Community will be discontinued in alignment with new state directives; all other university academically based Living-Learning Communities will continue within our residence hall system.  â¶Ä¯
We understand these centers and the Living-Learning Community have been powerful sources of connection, support and growth, and we acknowledge the emotional and personal impact this change may have on many members of our community. â¶Ä¯
We also want to acknowledge and express our deep appreciation for the dedicated staff members and student employees who have tirelessly worked in these centers to support students. The university places a high value on their contributions.  â¶Ä¯
Fostering Connection and Ensuring Resource Accessibility â¶Ä¯
Although the centers are closing, the Division of Student Life remains deeply committed to fostering student success, student belonging and ensuring continued access to resources, benefits students have consistently associated with the centers. The Center for Student Involvement will continue to serve as a vibrant gateway to an exciting, connected and fulfilling college experience. This includes clubs, organizations, leadership opportunities, and fraternity and sorority life. â¶Ä¯â€¯
Additionally, students will continue to have access to essential resources that support their health and well-being. This includes services related to mental health, overall wellness and basic needs. â¶Ä¯â€¯
While change is difficult, our mission remains the same: to foster a campus where every student feels a sense of belonging, has space to learn about themselves and others, and can build the community they desire to live, learn and grow in. We will continue to work with our students, staff, faculty and alumni to identify additional ways to support our students. â¶Ä¯
With care, â¶Ä¯
Eboni Pringle, Ph.D.
