Honors Student Receives Dr. Elizabeth Howard Memorial Honors Scholarship

Gabrielle (Gabby) Volz is a second year Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡ Honors College student from Mansfield, Ohio, and a graduate of Lexington High School. She is the second recipient of the Dr. Elizabeth Howard scholarship, the recently established fund for Honors College students in memory of Elizabeth Howard, Ph.D., who was a prominent member of the Honors College community, as well as the Department of English.

'A Supportive Community Makes It a Lot Easier'

Students coming to Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡and, for some of them, living away from home for the first time can struggle with the transition. The transition can even be more difficult for LGBTQ+ students, particularly for those who have recently "come out." Ken Ditlevson, director of Kent State's LGBTQ+ Center, talks about the many resources available at Kent to support them.

Honors College and Education Abroad Gave Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡Grad Tools For Success

Honors College ranked high when graduate Josh Budd was deciding whether to attend Âé¶¹¾«Ñ¡because it offered him a challenging experience through its thesis programs and its education-abroad program. Studying abroad helped him develop more empathy and connection with people of backgrounds different from his own.
