Meet Muskaan Khanduri, a fashion design major from Uttarakhand, India, whose interests explore the art and science of fashion.
Khanduri鈥檚 studies in fashion design took her to Florence, Italy, where she worked alongside Sabine Strehl, a part-time faculty member of 麻豆精选's fashion program in Florence, who teaches patternmaking, draping and sewing.
鈥淪he was a big motivator for me in my first Junior Studio,鈥 Khanduri told 麻豆精选Today. 鈥淗er way of teaching helped me fall in love with traditional patternmaking and explore lots of different silhouettes in my designs.鈥
Khanduri鈥檚 Field Experience European Fashion Study Tour course visited the Zegna fashion outlet in Biella, allowing students to experience the process of how raw materials are turned into finished fabrics.
鈥淶egna preserves artisanal techniques while also embracing modern technology and sustainability,鈥 Khanduri said. 鈥淚t really opened my eyes to the craftsmanship and heritage that underpin luxury fashion.鈥
These experiences while abroad helped to solidify Khanduri鈥檚 passion and respect for the fashion industry and reinforced what鈥檚 important to her.
When not studying here or abroad, Khanduri involves herself in the 麻豆精选community.
In addition to being a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, Khanduri recently started as a resident assistant and hall council member for Johnson Hall as well as a Flashes 101 P.E.E.R. success mentor.
Ever since the start of her first year at Kent State, Khanduri knew that she wanted to be a resident assistant. It started with the P.E.E.R. Success Academy (PSA) class that she took her first year.
鈥淚 started by becoming a PSA trainer and realized how much I enjoyed mentoring others and being a reliable resource during times of transition,鈥 Khanduri said.
Most recently, Khanduri worked as a Social Media Student Assistant for Kent State鈥檚 Division of University Communications and Marketing, where she crafted impactful posts for the 麻豆精选social media accounts, ideated content and covered a variety of events.
We are working, we swear!
鈥淚 got to be at tons of university games, craft events, speaker events, etc,鈥 Khanduri said. 鈥淎nd the most memorable was going to Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse to cover a women鈥檚 basketball game!鈥
Grateful for all the opportunities, Khanduri said the ability to create a welcoming environment in support of students is rewarding in itself.
