The �鶹��ѡ Chorale is the flagship choral ensemble at KSU. This auditioned, SATB vocal ensemble is composed of students from all majors and degree programs. Members focus on the advanced development of vocal technique, ensemble awareness and comprehensive musicianship through the study of repertoire from a variety of historical periods, cultures, genres and styles. Chorale offers passionate singers a collaborative community dedicated to musical excellence and storytelling through song.

Monday through Friday, 2:15-3:05 p.m. (Center for the Performing Arts Room E112)

Performances

Chorale regularly performs on campus and throughout the region, often collaborating with other choral and instrumental ensembles.

Membership

•  Membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students from across �鶹��ѡ. A successful audition is required. See the section below titled “Audition and Membership Information.”
• Auditions for the fall semester typically occur the weekend before classes begin. Limited auditions for the spring semester typically occur during the last week of classes of the preceding fall semester.

Kent Chorus is a non-auditioned, SATB vocal ensemble consisting of students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. As the largest choral ensemble on campus, Kent Chorus meets once a week to study and perform literature from a variety of historical periods, cultures, genres and styles. The ensemble specializes in works from the choral-orchestral repertoire. 

Rehearsals

Tuesdays, 7:15-9:45 p.m. (Center for the Performing Arts Room E112) 
The first rehearsal is typically the first Tuesday of each fall and spring semester.

Performances

Kent Chorus regularly performs on campus, often collaborating with the KSU Orchestra and other regional orchestras.

Membership

• No audition is necessary to join!
• Membership is open to the broader Northeast Ohio community and all �鶹��ѡ students, faculty, staff and alumni who have previous choral experience.
• Anyone interested in joining is invited to attend the first rehearsal of the semester for a brief voice placement.

Academic Credit Participants

Want to take this for academic credit? Register for course number MUS 45121 (Undergraduates) or MUS 55121 (Graduate Students). 

Non-credit Participants

• Join us during one of the first two rehearsals of the semester.
• You will be asked to sign the �鶹��ѡVolunteer Assignment Form and Release.

Members focus on the continued development of vocal technique, ensemble skills and comprehensive musicianship through the study of treble repertoire from a variety of historical periods, cultures, genres and styles. Cantique meets two days a week and frequently collaborates with other choirs for mixed-voice experiences.

Nova Jazz Singers is �鶹��ѡ’s premier vocal jazz ensemble, combining the disciplines of advanced choral singing and the language of jazz. Students learn advanced techniques in jazz ensemble singing and refine their solo and small-group singing skills. Members explore jazz history, theory and improvisation through arrangements of repertoire from the Great American Songbook and beyond. The ensemble has worked with professional jazz musicians such as Peter Eldridge, Lauren Kinham, Darmon Meader and Kim Nazarian.

�鶹��ѡGospel Choir is a diverse and welcoming ensemble for people of all backgrounds and beliefs. Members of the group represent different ages, ethnicities, races, majors, sexual orientations and religious beliefs, making the �鶹��ѡ Gospel Choir one of the most diverse organizations and ensembles on campus. The choir was founded in 1996 by KSU emerita faculty member Dr. Linda B. Angotti.

Rehearsals

Mondays, 5:30-7:10 p.m. (Center for the Performing Arts Room C304)
The first rehearsal is the first Monday of the fall and spring semesters.

Performances

The �鶹��ѡ Gospel Choir enjoys an excellent local, regional, national and international reputation. The choir has performed in Europe and the Bahamas, was invited to perform for two �鶹��ѡ presidential inaugurations (2007, 2015) and performs regularly for campus-wide events. The choir performs at various conferences, festivals and churches across the country.

Membership

• No formal audition is required! Join through a simple voice placement by coming to the first rehearsal of the semester.
• Membership is open to �鶹��ѡ students, faculty, staff and alumni as well as members of the broader Northeast Ohio community.

Audition Prep & Advice

PREPARATION

Although you don’t need to prepare any music for the audition, here a few things that you can do to feel more confident stepping into your audition:

• Keeping singing over the summer!
• Do the vocal exercises you’ve done with previous choirs.
• Practice pitch matching. Play several notes and sing them back.
• Practice melodic and rhythmic sight-reading.

AUDITION DAY

• Warm up before your audition!
• Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before your audition slot.
• Make sure that you have completed the .
• If you need to change your audition date/time, please do so in advance by removing your reserved time on the online form and then setting a new time.
• Choir placements will be sent after all auditions (and any necessary callbacks) have concluded. The results will be sent to the email address you provide on the audition registration form.

CALLBACK AUDITIONS FOR CHORALE

• Based upon your audition, you might receive a callback audition for �鶹��ѡ Chorale. Callback invitations will be delivered via email on or before Tuesday, August 25.
• Callback auditions will take place on Wednesday, August 26 (2:15-3:05 p.m.) in E112.

CLASS REGISTRATION

• Please leave room in your schedule for the choirs for which you are eligible.
• Register for your assigned choir after the placement results are announced. Information will be provided via email.
