�鶹��ѡ’s Class of 2025 arrives with a strong record of classroom success, boasting an all-time high GPA of 3.5. These newest Golden Flashes arrive 3,982 strong, an increase of more than 4% from a year ago.

Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by 39 brave men on Sept. 17, 1787, recognizing all who are born in the United States or, by naturalization, have become citizens. 

Members of �鶹��ѡorganized a food drive to support its local community in the fight against hunger and collected over 20 tons of food between March and August 2020. Due to these efforts, the university was awarded the best case study for the Food Waste Reduction Efforts category in Campus Race to Zero Waste's 2021 Case Study Competition.

A research team from �鶹��ѡ's School of Information working in partnership with Kent State’s College of Nursing received a National Leadership Planning Grant for Libraries from the Institute of Museums and Library Services (IMLS) for $99,982. The funds will support the first stages of what investigators have named Project SHIELD (Supporting Healthy Infant Early Learning and Development).

The �鶹��ѡ Museum is thrilled to announce the opening of its long-awaited exhibition “TEXTURES: the history and art of Black hair.” Already gaining national and international attention, “TEXTURES” opens Sept. 10 and is a landmark exploration of Black hair and its important, complex place in the history of African American life and culture.

For the first time in school history, �鶹��ѡ has received the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Institutional Academic Achievement Award. The Golden Flashes earned a department-wide grade-point average (GPA) of 3.447 for the 2020-21 academic year.

Students from all over the country began moving into �鶹��ѡresidence halls, on a staggered schedule for COVID-19 safety, on Wednesday, Aug. 18.

The Akron Pride Festival will take place on Saturday, Aug. 28, at Lock 3 Park in downtown Akron. Kent State’s LGBTQ+ Center will be sponsoring a free shuttle that will allow new and returning �鶹��ѡstudents to experience the event – some of them for the very first time.

From now through Sunday, Sept. 19, Cockeye Creamery, located at 1805 1/2 Parkman Road NW in Warren, will be serving its Kent State-inspired ice cream “Black Squirrel” to raise money for �鶹��ѡ at Trumbull’s Care Closet. 

�鶹��ѡ’s Flashes Fighting Hunger Contactless Food Drive will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 1-4 p.m. at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Hilltop Drive. The collection station will be located on Hilltop Drive in front of Cartwright Hall.
