President Todd Diacon welcomed the Class of 2027 during a colorful and festive Convocation celebration, encouraging students to embrace the spirit of the university’s core values. A relatively new tradition on the Kent Campus, Convocation not only serves to get students excited for the start of their academic careers at �鶹��ѡbut also to introduce the students to the deans and faculty for each of the university’s colleges.

Senior Delonte Goodman spent the summer working under the direction of mentor Tony Jakli, Ph.D., professor at the Liquid Crystal Institute and graduate student Alex Adaka conducting dielectric measurements for ferronematic liquid crystals.

A scholarship funded through the �鶹��ѡ Hotel and Conference Center benefits students in Kent State's Hospitality Management program. 

With a specific focus on depressed and non-depressed parental groups, the study led by Sara Black, Ph.D., in the Department of Psychological Sciences, seeks to understand how parental depressive symptoms may influence parent-child interaction and the subsequent effects on child development and emotional well-being.

The �鶹��ѡ alumni family grew by nearly 1,200 new graduates as the university held its summer commencement ceremonies. The accomplishments of the Summer Class of 2023 were recognized with outdoor commencement ceremonies on Aug. 19.

A federal grant will help restart a major improvement project for a highly trafficked area of downtown Kent. Changes to East Main Street will include wider sidewalks, bike and pedestrian paths and crossings, and two roundabouts.

�鶹��ѡ Paris American Academy will not be open for students for fall 2023, but the program will resume operations in Paris, France, in January 2024. The students who registered for fall 2023 classes at the Paris American Academy can attend the New York City Fashion campus or �鶹��ѡFlorence in Italy. 

Teachers from northeast Ohio and from thousands of miles away in sub-Saharan Africa have been learning to create inexpensive math teaching tools thanks to the efforts of some �鶹��ѡ professors.
